Summer Ridge locked and loaded to end June

Good Monday morning to everyone,

The last full week of June is here and from a weather standpoint, summer is in full blast across a significant part of the country and especially here in western North Carolina.

A cold front and weak trough is moving through the Eastern US today which is lowering the humidity some but not the temperatures. Meanwhile the large 500mb ridge has moved into Texas and will settle there for the next few days.

There are no huge changes expected over the next week or so as ridging will dominate across the southern tier of the country. Another weak front will move in Thursday but by next weekend the heights grow again over the Southeast.

This is going to result in a dry pattern overall for North Carolina and surrounding states.

With the lack of deep, tropical moisture and lack of dynamics in the atmosphere, drought conditions are going to expand across North Carolina.
