12:45pm: The atmosphere has destabilized sufficiently to allow thunderstorms to develop across the western foothills and mountains between now and 2:00pm. Lift is increasing across the area at this time and that should become sufficient to bust through the cap that is in place across the area. A cap on the atmosphere is like a cap on a drink bottle. Below the cap everything is contained but shake it up and remove the cap, the convection explodes. That is what is going on across the mountains now and then the western foothills will follows suit.
The convection (thunderstorms) will be capable of becoming intense today with frequent lightning and a few pockets of damaging winds and large hail. Stay weather aware this afternoon. The SPC has our area in a level 1 out of 5 risk, Marginal Risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening.
Thunderstorms are possible right through the midnight hour tonight/Saturday Morning.
