Much needed break in wet pattern this weekend, moisture re-loads next week

Good Friday afternoon, hope everyone is doing well.

The persistent pattern of wet weather with numerous afternoon and evening storms is taking a brief break just in time for the upcoming weekend.

A look at water vapor shows the changes going on aloft, a trough across the Great Lakes will move east and shove less humid air into the Carolinas, it will be noticeable for Saturday and Sunday. Near the surface, a westerly shift to the wind is already occurring.

You may have noticed a more hazy look to the sky already, some of that is smoke from western wildfires that has finally moved into parts of the Eastern US.

After dealing with today’s storms there will be a reduction of moisture for the weekend. We have lowered precipitation chances down to as low as 20-percent for the Piedmont counties this weekend. All-in-all, a much deserved rest from the active storm pattern. However the pattern will quickly transition again just in time for next week…
