No Major Weather Issues For Memorial Day Weekend

Lead Forecaster Daniel Crawley

Good Friday afternoon,

Memorial Day Weekend is coming up, please take a moment to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

It’s going to be a great weekend in terms of the weather for events that you may have planned. High pressure is building in today and much drier air is spilling into the region. You will notice that the most during the next couple mornings as we will see 50’s across the Foothills and Western Piedmont, 40’s in the High Country. It will be refreshing!

Looking at the Synoptics over the next several days, ridging builds in to our north and a small weakness breaks off into the Gulf of Mexico and across Florida. That weakness hangs around and will eventually erode the southern extent of the ridge by next week.

500 mb height anomalies

Northeasterly flow will keep that low humidity in place through the holiday weekend. Eventually southeast flow will slowly take over bringing a bit more in the way of Atlantic origin airmass to the Western Carolinas. It won’t be super muggy but also not ultra refreshing.

Eventually enough humidity will creep in to allow afternoon thunderstorms to develop on an isolated to scattered basis. There won’t be a huge trigger in place so the high terrain will be favored for convective genesis.

Precipitable Water Values

While nice this weekend, temperatures should return to more early June like values by next week.
