Good Monday morning, we continue to monitor the potential of winter weather across the region for Wednesday. For today, we are going to have some really nice weather but it is chilly as high pressure has settled in across the Carolinas.

As of 11 am Monday morning, we have updated our graphics in regards to the winter weather potential. Today’s update includes a first-call map for snowfall accumulations through Wednesday night. We still hold medium confidence in this forecast. The timing of the features are pretty much locked in, it’s the amount of moisture and potential banding of precipitation that still needs to be ironed out with about 48 hours to go…

Storm Timing…

Snow Forecast (First Call)

Considering the overall fast nature of this system, it appears that western North Carolina may avoid the heaviest snowfall with this storm. The heaviest snow could fall across North Central and Northeastern N.C. as more Atlantic moisture could get thrown into the system.

Here is our first call for Wednesday. We do expect mixing to play a factor in snowfall accumulations especially in our southern counties.

Summary…

While this is not expected to be a blockbuster winter weather event, there will be impacts to travel, school and athletic scheduling and some impacts to utilities starting Wednesday and could linger into the late work-week. The Winter Storm Index remain at Level 1.

Another update will be posted no later than tomorrow early afternoon.
