Drought Conditions Impacting Western Piedmont

Lead Forecaster Daniel Crawley

Good Thursday morning to everyone,

It has been a dry stretch of weather recently and with two heat waves it has done an efficient job and drying out the ground once again.

The drought monitor was updated earlier this morning and the “Abnormally Dry” category has reappeared across the Western Piedmont.

The drought conditions extend basically along Interstate 85 from North Carolina down into Northern and Central Georgia. Rainfall has been below normal for about the past six weeks. Our mountain and foothill friends are doing ok for now but that could change in future updates.

The unfortunate news is that we don’t see any significant weather makers over the next five days. A couple weak fronts and terrain induced storms will scatter the landscape…and that’s pretty normal for late June.
