Significant Winter Weather Possible Thursday (First Call Map)

Winter weather is becoming likely over the next 48 hours as colder air moves into the region tonight and another moisture-laden system approaches.

Freezing rain and possibly sleet looks to be the predominant types of precipitation starting late Wednesday night and moving into Thursday.



Below is our first call map on freezing rain potential through Thursday evening. Notice the highest amounts are in the favored cold air damming regions…


Amounts nearing a 1/4 inch can result in significant damage to trees and power lines. Below is an outline of where the highest impacts from loss of electricity could occur.


With it becoming more likely that icing will happen, the Winter Storm Index has been bumped up to Level 2: Prep the Roads
