Winter Weather is Likely Sunday Morning Across Foothills and Western Piedmont

Confidence has grown today that the region will see a bout of winter weather startimg very late Saturday and lasting through the morning hours of Sunday.

A strong hybrid cold air damming is in place and waiting for an upper low and surface low to move east on Saturday east of the Mississippi River.

Moisture will spread over the cold pool after midnight on Saturday to produce a winter mix of precipitaton. It could begin as snow in some areas but will likely change to sleet and freezing rain before temperatures warm just enough late in the morning to turn everything over to a cold rain.

With the increased confidence in Winter Weather, the Winter Storm Index has been raised to Level 2…
