Good Saturday morning to all, here is a quick synopsis of the local weather through the next 48 hours…
Today (Sat):
Pattern: We sit in the backside of a cold, damp air mass. Cloud deck hangs tough most of the day, especially north and west (Caldwell, Burke, McDowell, northern Alexander).
Temps: Highs generally upper 40s to near 50 in the lower counties (Catawba, Lincoln, Cleveland, Rutherford, Polk valleys), mid-40s in the higher spots of Burke / Caldwell / McDowell. Lows tonight drop into the upper 20s and low 30s with better radiational cooling where skies can thin for a few hours.
Moisture: Low-level moisture lingers under an inversion this morning. Patchy fog and low stratus in valleys and near area lakes, with a slow lift. No organized rain, just a stray sprinkle early.
Sunday:
Pattern: Weak high pressure settles in; flow aloft turns more zonal. We get a mixed-sky day: sun poking through mid and high clouds.
Temps: Highs upper 40s to low 50s across the board; ridges a couple of degrees cooler, sheltered valleys may over-perform by a degree or two if they clear faster. Lows Sunday night in the mid-30s.
Hazards: Valley fog possible again late Sunday night into early Monday where winds decouple.
