Foothills Weather Network >1 Inch Snow Outlook – Next 7 Days

We are watching a continuing cold pattern lock in and next week even colder air likely moving into our area. This pattern may bring some light snow, mainly for places close to the mountains. This is NOT one big storm. Instead, it’s a few small chances for light snow over the next seven days.

Here’s what you need to know:

🌨 Where Snow Is Most Likely

The best chance for at least 1 inch of snow will be in the mountains and the communities closest to the Blue Ridge. This includes:

Northwest Caldwell County (Globe, Edgemont area) Northwest Burke County (Jonas Ridge area) Little Switzerland area of McDowell County

These places have 30–40% chances of seeing an inch or more.

Higher elevations do much better because they stay colder and pick up snow when winds blow across the mountains.

🌨 Foothills Towns (Lower Elevations)

Most of our larger towns have lower chances. This includes:

Morganton Lenoir Marion Hickory Taylorsville

These areas have about a 15–30% chance of seeing an inch of snow.

Most people here may only see flurries or a dusting, and many will see nothing that sticks.

🌧 Southern Counties & Piedmont Areas

Places like:

Forest City Rutherfordton Polk County foothills (Columbus, Mill Spring) Lincolnton Gastonia Shelby

…have very low chances, around 5–15%.

These areas are farther from the coldest air and often warm up too much for snow to stick.

When Could We See Snow?

Our best chance for flakes will be Sunday Night through early afternoon Monday.

This does not look like a big storm, but the mountains could see light accumulation.

Some rain/snow mix or light snow showers may impact the Foothills at times Monday.

Another weaker chance may show up late next weekend, but that part of the forecast is still uncertain.

🧭 What This Means for You

Most people in the Foothills will not see meaningful snow this week. The mountains and escarpment areas have the best shot at seeing light accumulation. No major travel problems are expected at this time. We will update you quickly if anything changes.

Final Thoughts

Winter is waking up a little, but nothing big is on the table right now.

Stay tuned — we’ll keep you updated every day as we move deeper into December.
