Much needed rain, severe storms possible next 24-48 hours

Good Sunday morning to everyone,

We are getting much needed change in the weather pattern over the next 48 hours as a storm system may deliver much needed rain to western North Carolina but it may come at the expense of some severe weather.

Southerly flow ahead of the storm along with daytime heating may provide enough of a trigger for some scattered rain showers and thunder by this afternoon, severe weather is not anticipated today.

HRRR Future Radar (Sunday 6 pm)

A higher likelihood of severe weather appears in the cards on Monday as a cold front moves through. Unlike recent frontal passages, this event looks to be moving through during the heating of the day instead of the early morning hours. Instability may be greater for storms to pack a punch.

Storm Prediction Center has our region in a Level 3 of 5 (Enhanced Risk) for Monday with damaging winds and an isolated tornado risk.
