Good Monday evening,
After dealing with well below normal temperatures and a winter storm last week, we will have a less active week coming up as temperatures will briefly moderate. Currently we have a split-flow pattern with southern stream energy moving across the Southeast US. You probably noticed today it was milder than we have seen recently, that due in part to the southern jet taking over, however that will be temporary as the northern jet is re-loading with disturbances that will bringing colder air back in.
The northern jet will keep us at or below normal from tomorrow through Friday. By this weekend, the southern jet will provide a disturbance that will bring some rain showers to the region. We see no chance of winter precip at this time.
Precipitation amounts look to be fairly modest for the Saturday weather system, generally 1/2 inch liquid or less. The timing of precipitation is for it to begin as early as Saturday morning and departing by late Saturday night or Sunday morning,
Another Arctic Blast Expected Next Week
Once the weekend system moves through the Eastern US, a stout West Coast ridge will allow a major buckle in the jet stream starting next week. All signs are leading to multiple days of well-below normal temperatures during the week of Jan 20.
