Good Thursday afternoon to everyone,
The Western Carolinas continues with the cleanup and rebuild from the effects of Helene three weeks ago. The weather has really helped with the cleanup but we are in a chilly pattern as a huge trough has dipped into the Eastern US. Some mountain locations have seen a hard freeze, everyone has seen frost and some of that frost has spilled over into the Northern Foothills.

The trough will gradually slide east as we head into this weekend and that will help promote warmth across western North Carolinas. We will see a lot more 70’s in the afternoon, from Saturday onward with seasonally cool nights in the upper 30’s and 40’s through the weekend.
As we get into next week and the end of the current 7-Day forecast a broad ridge will cover most of the Continental US with a decaying upper trough across the Rockies westward. This will help promote zonal flow next week and beyond, that will allow temperatures to become above normal during the daytime and not quite as chilly as night.

While we gradually warm up, it will NOT be accompanied by a return of wet weather. Below is a model ensemble precipitation output through Oct. 29…it’s dry!
The dry weather is nice for continued outdoor activities. Those who are burning brush and other debris will need to be mindful of the dry conditions and how unattended fires have the potential to spread quickly.
